How to read pst files?

Q. I imported an Outlook pst file. It worked but contained only the headers not the real message. What am I doing wrong?

MailNavigator can read pst files, but it uses MS Outlook for this. The pst format (MS Outlook mailboxes) is protected by Microsoft. MailNavigator can access *.pst files only indirectly, through the mechanism of Outlook OLE. In effect, a search of messages in MS Outlook folders is achieved by Outlook's own resources.

To access a pst file, this file must be directly accessible from MS Outlook as a mail folder, and not only for opening as an external file. In this case, MailNavigator will find the list of MS Outlook folders and the necessary folder can be loaded or used for a message search.

To access pst files from a previous version of MS Outlook, do the following, step by step:

  1. Open the application MS Outlook.

  2. Select the menu command: File | Import and Export...

  3. Select: Import from other program or file.

  4. In the next dialogue box, select: file of personal folders (.pst).

  5. Now you need to indicate the complete path for your old *.pst. message file.

  6. Next, indicate the folder into which you want to import the messages.

  7. If you have several *.pst files, repeat this procedure for each of them.

Once MS Outlook has imported your old messages, these messages also become accessible for reading and searching in MailNavigator.

When you have successfully imported the pst file into MS Outlook, select the "Mail of MS Outlook" folder in MailNavigator on the Information Retrieval page. In the list of mail boxes opened on the right, select the mailbox into which you imported the messages from MS Outlook. Double click on this mailbox to load it. Or mark it for a further search of its messages.
